"HOMELAND" WINS PRESTIGIOUS NATIONAL JEWISH BOOK AWARD
Jan. 8, 2008/1 Shevat, 5768 - HOMELAND: The Illustrated History of the State of Israel, published by Nachshon Press, has won the National Jewish Book Award, recognized as the most prestigious award in Jewish literature.
The National Jewish Book Awards, administered by the Jewish Book Council, is the longest running North American awards program of its kind in the field of Jewish literature. The awards, presented by category, are designed to give recognition to outstanding books, to stimulate writers to further literary creativity and to encourage the reading of worthwhile titles.
The National Jewish Book Awards program began in 1948 when the Jewish Book Council presented awards to authors of Jewish books at its annual meeting. Among the past notable literary winners are Howard Fast, Chaim Grade, Bernard Malamud, Cynthia Ozick, Chaim Potok, Philip Roth, I.B. Singer, and Elie Wiesel.
"We're extremely proud to join the long list of award winners whose works have greatly impacted Jewish life," said William J. Rubin, HOMELAND executive editor. "Our intent was to craft a book that dramatically told Israel's story in an innovative, new manner, while appealing to both teens and adults. This award is a great honor and is deeply gratifying for everyone involved."
In November, HOMELAND was awarded the Gold Medal in the Non-Fiction Young Adult category of the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards, which honor the year's best children’s books, authors and illustrators.
Presented by Independent Publisher Online and Jenkins Group, the Moonbeam Children’s Book Awards bring increased recognition to exemplary children’s books and their creators, and promote childhood literacy and life-long reading. HOMELAND was chosen from a total of 862 entries received from authors and publishers in 45 U.S. states, 6 Canadian provinces, and 7 countries overseas.
HOMELAND, a groundbreaking graphic nonfiction, is the only complete history of the State of Israel in graphic novel form on the market. With full-color art and dynamic narrative, HOMELAND is an engaging way for readers to understand key information about 3,500 years of complicated history that has become the focus of daily newscasts.
